My ex-boss always said “Think out of the box” and “say things in a new way”. Since then, I have realized the importance of creativity which is a key to success in many circumstances. The idea of creativity is being captured in today’s creativity session at work which I found extremely useful and inspirational. We tend to think in our own way (without our control), our brain has its own filing system as we grow up. However, the down side of this filing system is the restriction of our thinking, and this is what they called “Rivers of Thinking”. People will think according to their perceptions as time goes by. What we need to do is to find out a NEW way of thinking from time to time and not to follow the “rivers”.
There are two practical ways to be more creative when we do our brainstorming session:
1) Re-expression by words / pictures / emotions
2) Related Worlds – see the things / people that are related to the client’s objective.
I enjoyed the session so much because our regional EVP has related Picasso, one of the greatest artists in the world, in this training session. In fact, Picasso is a brilliant example of creativity as he introduced new stimulus into his arts work.
