Day 23

After breaking a glass milk bottle the other day without saying sorry, Jenny told me that she broke the glass cover of my wok on Monday, the day we went out to arrange birth certificate.
I was so upset because she is not a honest person, and blamed Tin Tin for doing this. She is asking Tin Tin not to tell us as well.
In the evening, we brought this subject to Tin Tin and she burst into tears because she felt she's wrong too. We calmed her down and felt glad that she got a pure heart.

Baby Megan is sleeping and eating well. Though the weather is getting much cooler, we still have to have air conditioning for Megan because she's a hot baby and the neighbourhood is a bit dusty.

Day 22

Its a chaotic day because tintin broke my lovely ceramic bowl I got from Zara Home in Dubai a few years ago. This happened after lunch.

At around 6pm, Jenny broke a milk bottle while she's feeding Megan! Wow! Is it too much for one day?

In the evening, we started to put Megan in the stokke new born set because she did not want to sleep. But she fell asleep quickly after we put her down! The chair is supposed for wake-up babies!! Wake up, Megan.
Cute toes!

Day 21

Officially, Megan is 3 weeks old on 27 October. On Day 21, we went to the birth registry to arrange a birth certificate for Megan. Since she was born in Union hospital, we had to visit the birth registry office in Shatin. The office was a small one and filled with people speaking in Mandarin. It's like I visited Shenzhen!!
Anyway, the certificate can be done in 30mins. So easy and quick. We also took time to visit Ikea and we also made a stop at pacific coffee. On the way back, we visited maritime square too. Ah Lun said we even missed visiting Maritime Square (the nearest mall to our house), that's really hilarious.
$140 for one birth certificate. We got two copies, because the officer says the certificate will be used many many times before Megan reaches 11year old, eg school applications, etc. We may not want to see the creases (similar to our own birth certificates) after so many parties use the birth certificate.

Day 20

It's Sunday, and my family is coming to visit baby Megan again. We have to time our visit very accurately so that they are not visiting the baby while she's busy in taking a bath or feeding.
Jenny is also on leave on Sunday which means Ah Lun is taking Megan for a bath on his own. Finally he made it.
Actually Kailan does not harm baby when she is calmed. I love this shot! Tse's family is finally sitting all together on the sofa.
Sister loves this picture.
Megan is lack of security likes some other babies. We have to use pacifier to calm her sometimes, though we don't want to rely on this too much.

I also need to thank Ah Lun taking the night shifts (12am and 4am) for me so I can take a rest after two long days. I am full of energy now.

Day 19

Nothing special happened today, and life gets really busy as Ah Lun had long working days recently. Sometimes, I think it's not about physical help, but the mental support which is more important. Therefore, these last two days passed too slowly and looked more difficult without him.

The good news is he will be home on Sunday most of the time! At least he can help to hold Megan after feeding. He also needs some bonding time with baby after  disappearing for two days.

This is the only photo I took on Day 19. She's got chubby cheeks! But her arms and legs are not chubby at all because they are rather long...no Michelin effect on her so far.

Day 18

We visited the maternal and child health centre again for a regular check-up. Megan weighed 4.01kg on Day 18, she's  getting heavier slowly and gradually.

She looks quite different everyday! Here you go the look of Day 18:
By the way, Ah Lun started to give nick name to Megan. She is called 禿鷹 because of her natural but standing hair.
禿鷹is trying to push the pacifier into her mouth by her little hands.

Day 17

2 weeks after I have discharged from hospital, I was required to do a medical check up on my wound. I just look forward to this appointment because I wanted to know how much weight I have lost after child birth.

Surprisingly, I lost all the baby weight I have gained.
38 weeks pregnant = up 7.6kg
Megan's weight at birth time = 3.8kg
2 weeks postpartum = down "exactly" 7.6kg (how funny!)

It really made me happy because I lost all the weight gain in such a short period of time. But anyway, I was a bit overweight before my pregnancy, so it's the best time to reduce some weight in the next couple of weeks.

By feeding Megan with breast milk, I actually eat a lot. The amount of rice and soup I take is amazing!! With this amount of food intake, I can produce milk for baby. Theoretically, I will need 500 calories more everyday.

Kailan and the Safety Gate

Megan has been back to home for two weeks, and Kailan is getting used to the existence of Megan.
We ordered a safety gate to seperate Kailan from baby last week. After we purchased the gate, Kailan actually becomes more calmed and she wants to stick with baby now. If I sit in the living room, she will pull her pillow to stay close to us.
But if I go back to the nursery room, Kailan will stay close to the gate. So funny!!

Kailan you are not forgotten

Quality time with princess LAN LAN
Heavenly massage...

Day 16

It was a nightmare last night. Megan did not sleep well because she had a stomachache. It's very heartbreaking as we could not do much to alleviate her pain but just hold her tight. Both of us woke up to look after her. It's the first time I felt very tired in the morning.

Though Megan had a bad night, she started the day better today. Her appetite was not as good as the first week, but it's still ok.

Today, her umbilical cord fell off. Just a couple of hours after this picture was taken. It looks like a super big raisin, haha.

Mom & sister-in-law also visited us. The best joke was JB attacking Kailan, we were so happy because Kailan was afraid of a young kid finally.
It's also a memorable day, because Ah Lun was trained to bath Megan for the very first time!! Well done, hubby!!
I was busy with milk pumping in the nursery room. But I think this is such a precious moment so I stopped the pumping and witness this.
Small Megan vs Big Lun
Sigh! The bath basin is too small for Megan very soon.

Day 15

Good morning Megan!
Megan's eyes are getting bigger as she continues to 收水

Day 15 marked half of one month and this was an exciting day!!

Yay! We have another excuse to go out as we need to buy some baby stuff from AEON tsuen wan. Ah Lun and I had some private couple moments which we truly treasured.
Feeling too happy because I could break the prison for leisure reasons on Day 15.
I only realized that moms need to visit doctors to do medical check-ups for baby and themselves after child birth. In short, it's not really a confinement as I always thought.
Ah Lun wanted to have a coffee badly and I wanted to have beard pa pa cream puff!!
These two hours out of home made my day. But frankly speaking, I still felt tired after two hours. So this is the maximum time I could leave home...
This is the thing we need to buy urgently - nose sucker. I have picked the cutie mushroom shaped sucker.
Other than that, we had to stock up the Merries diapers. It's the best diaper in town, and Megan's skin was irritated if we used other brands such as Huggies or Pampers. The online shop could only delivered the Merries diapers one day later, and it's too late for poo poo expert Megan.
Back home and had to look after this naughty baby who did not want to sleep.
Reflex. Sweetness overload.
Megan has such long legs. Hopefully she will be a tall lady like her parents.
Well, Ah Lun wanted to use 爸爸手 as photo caption (He helped me to hold Megan as much as possible, so that I won't get 媽媽手. He then claimed that he got 爸爸手.)

Day 14

Ah Lun's daddy visited us today, and he witnessed the cuteness overload during Megan's bath time.
After that we took a few more pictures with our DSLR.
She stopped moving and posed for Ah Lun.
She hates washing her back, so Jenny needed to change the position quickly.
This was taken by my iPhone. Finally we put the new born baby clothes on Megan otherwise they won't fit her very soon...

Day 13

Jenny is finally on leave this Sunday, but surprisingly both of us did not fear about the lack of help but enjoyed the quiet time at home very much. May be we treated Tin Tin as family member already, and she's more quiet. On the other hand, Jenny speaks Cantonese so she makes a big difference  if she's present.
We were feeling okay as baby has a schedule to follow. We take turns to look after the baby and we enjoyed our private family time. It's always fun to watch Ah Lun talking to baby because the conversation is so abnormal!!
Finally Ah Lun got time to take some pictures from his D4. This was taken by my iPhone 5s only. It may take a longer time to upload the photos from D4.
baby Megan is most active in the evening. She woke up earlier than her meal time, but she was finding the nipple in this picture. Though it was not captured very well, it's really hilarious.

Day 12

This daddy worked late and looked after the last feeding before midnight. But Megan did not want to wake up...
Ah Lun told Megan not to sleep now. Save it for the night!

Day 11

After calling the tsing yi mayernal and child health centre for two days, finally I got a time slot!!!
It's like I am going back to the 80s when I arrived. The centre's decoration is so different from the current world. Actually I also visited this centre when I was young.  I bet they did not change the decoration much. Even the video showing there is like the educational video we once watched at primary school. So interesting.
The centre was filled with crying babies but Megan was in deep sleep and I was amazed that she did not wake up!!

When my name was called, we took Megan in a big room and weighed her. Her latest weight was 3.94kg. The funniest thing also happened on this baby, she wee wee on the weight! Haha.

Even though the visit was short, 9-11am, I was so exhausted because I woke up at 4:45am every day now.

Ah Lun had a super busy day too, which means I'm working on my own today. Poor him, he woke up from 3am for work and came back home at 12 midnight. Terrible schedule!!

2014/10/16

Day 10

I cannot believe it that's day 10 already.
And we are back to home for one full week. Everything gets a system gradually, and we started to understand our baby's requests more.
1. She always wants people to hold her for a while after feeding. She will open her eyes to check if you are here from time to time.
2. Wait and see before you change the diapers. Similar to all babies, she likes to eat and poo at the same time.
3. She tends to be more awake in the evening from 8-12pm....
4. She is quite sweaty and hates hot environment.

In terms of my breast status, I finally get the electric pump to work on my left breast. May be the lecithin pills are working! It's so touching.

Day 9

It was a busy day because I promised myself to pump my milk more frequently to alleviate the blockage of milk ducts. Its so time consuming and I wonder how will I survive if I don't have any helpers.
It's quite impressive to have 120ml solely from my right breast. But my left breast is still very blocked, very frustrating.
Mom came to visit Megan and help me to buy the dries sea cucumber. She was smiling from the bottom of her heart.
On the other hand, my 99 still have not got a chance to see Megan because she's occupied with taking care of her two grandchildren.
Kailan, the eldest sister, was quite unhappy because everyone's attention was on the baby. We spent some time to play with Kailan and the dog is as passionate as usual.
In the evenings, Ah Lun usually takes the early shift and I will help in the second shift. This works out quite well for us and he still gets some sleep before work.

2014/10/14

Day 8

With Ah Lun's help in the mid night, I could get my breast milk pumped more frequently. I did sleep less last night because of the pumping.
Megan is a demanding baby and she always wants to have a hug before going to bed. So we offered her both pacifier and our hugs to calm her. Luckily, she slept from 3:30am to 7:09am this morning. Isn't it great!!!
Ah Lun's is the technician in the family, so he looks after the operations of my electric pump and sterilizer. Therefore, he cleaned / sterilized everything after my breast milk pumping and went to bed later. As a result, the first morning feeding was all looked after by me.
Posing for me? She's in deep sleep after stomach is full.
Both blanket and toy sponsored by company.

Today, we need to take baby out to check Jaundice. I m a bit happy because it's a break for my month-long confinement.
Very lucky, she did not wake up from 1:30pm to 5pm. And she quickly took a bath right after we stepped into the house.
The next challenge will be on Friday, visiting 健康院. It may take a longer time for that thorough check.

2014/10/13

Day 7

We have got a great night slept because Megan just woke up once. We calmed her down with the pacifier. Why did I not use this two nights earlier?
It's funny to know that Megannjust cried because of insecurity. The pacifier helped to soothed her.
After the last meal at 11:30pm, I just woke up at 3:30am to feed her once again. Ah Lun needs to work today so I did not wake him up to offer me a helping hand.
The next meal took place at 7:30am. And I felt so great with this achievement!!!
This cheeky baby is so angry if milk is not offered to her quick enough!
The only caption I can think of is 照鏡!

Today, 99 helped to send Megan's proposed name to master for final approval. His first comment was Megan is a big eater. I told Ah Lun that this master is so powerful. He said may be not, because the master asked if baby's mother works. Following that, master said the mom is very successful. Ah Lun disagreed with this comment XDDDD!

Megan's Chinese name will be 謝玥瞳 if there's no further changes. :)

2014/10/12

Day 6

Last night, the second night Megan slept over at home, was still a disaster. We fed her at 1:30am and she kept crying until 4:30am. We changed her diapers for 4 times, because she kept on wee wee or poo poo. We thought her crying was coming from the discomfort, but looks like she has no reason to cry.
Ah Lun has slept after 4:30am as he had a long day of work. I breast fed the baby, followed by formula milk. Finally, baby felt contented and tired of crying all night long. She did not wake up anymore. I could go to bed at 5:30am.

Now, I wake up at 8:30am, aiming to finish freshening myself and have my breakfast before she wakes up again.
Life of a mother is not easy!

I am sitting and waiting in the nursery, so I organized and filled things up. I love an organized life since I was young. How could my nursery a messy place especially you will need to get things done promptly.
Megan loves taking a bath. It's very rare that baby loves it without crying.
She loves water so much. It's like she's enjoying a spa in Bangkok.
When we washed her back on the first day, she disliked it... But today, she did not cry anymore.
如何抱嬰兒又不失霸氣?

2014/10/11

Day 5

I think my right breast is getting better and better. It becomes much softer after pumping. In 20 mins, the milk volume from the right breast has reached 45ml.

For the left breast, the situation is still more or less the same. I only got 15ml after squeezing by hand.

I had another painful breast massage to clear the blocked milk ducts. The situation has improved once again! Yay!

Hope everything will be fine soon. Afterall, it's only Day 5!!

Last but not least, I had received a bunch of flowers from Liz who is also on maternity leave. They are so beautiful.

Day 4

Not sure if it's caused by hormones, I was really touched when I could finally take Megan home. When I saw Ah Lun holding his mini-me, I got tears in my eyes.
We had no time to get the car seat, so I was holding Megan in the car. Quite dangerous I found it later. Baby was wearing the swaddling blanket from Joanne!
Upon arrival, confinement lady jenny is about to come. She cooked a late lunch for us and showed some techniques of taking care of the baby. We found out that Megan loves bathing (basin sponsored by my family). Normally babies will cry when we drop them into water. But Megan enjoyed it so much!!

Jenny left us at 8pm, and the real challenge came after this. Both of us were so tired, but we need to wait for baby to wake up to feed her. Since it's the first night in a new place, the baby cried so much and so loud that she was awake from midnight to 4am......
Terrible 1st night with baby. Since ah Lun needs to work at 5am and he had been exhausted taking care of me in the last few days, I looked after the baby on the first night. Quite a brand new experience for me!! We are not defeated, just need more time to understand our Megan.
