Tempting breakfast

Ah Lun gave me a surprise this morning by making me a breakfast. However, he made the breakfast in his size, which means that's too much for me. I said I cannot finish it, he responded: 信唔信我打爆你個頭?So I have to finish it otherwise, this is not good for my health even though I had a healthy breakfast to start my day.
In fact, Kailan is really interested in any food. But I am sorry, we cannot share this with you. Look at her eagerness in her body gesture and facial expression!!

Home Sweet Home

Finally, we picked up Kailan today from Posh Paws Resort. She is having a deep sleep on my lap after she had come home. That's normal because she does that every time she left the dog hotel. We guessed she could not sleep well there.

Dubai - Day 9-10

It took us 8 hours to fly back to Dubai from Casablanca. After the flight, Ah Lun fell sick. It's already 3am when we checked in the hotel.
Dec is the best month to visit Dubai, which means hotel rates are high. I could not stay in the beautiful hotels this time on my own budget, so we just go for Ibis Hotel Mall of Emirates. HKD800 per room per night is very reasonable. But given that we are arriving in mid night, we had to book two nights. So unfair!!
We have got one day in Dubai and Ah Lun is sick. What should we do? We have to do something easy.
Finally, Ah Lun would like to shoot Burj Al Arab from the beach. We spent sometime there chatting and this was the best moment for our anniversary + birthday trip 2012. After this, we went back to hotel so Ah Lun could take a little break. And then, right after the sun had set, we went straight to Dubai Fountain to shoot Burj Khalifa. The tower always look beautiful during the magical hours. After some serious shots, Ah Lun wants "steak". You can imagine his appetite was not pleased in Morocco. When we went to Dubai, we know we will be full and satisfied in every meal.
After dinner at TGI Friday (balcony overlooking the fountain), we decided to get a small cake for our dual celebration - his birthday and our wedding anniversary. I got it from my favourite bakery, Paul, at the Dubai Mall. I brought along the long candles from Hong Kong. Meiling thought she is creative, and suggested to cut the long candle into 5 pieces to indicate that's 5th anniversary. Unfortunately we did not have scissors to cut the cotton thread inside the candle! Ah Lun showed his craftsmanship by bending the candle into the number "5" with a lighter. It's amazing. Hurray! We have a special candle to go with this rich Chocolate cake.
That's the end of our 2012 holiday. We know this is a tough holiday, but we know this eye-opening trip will stay in our heart forever. Cannot wait to start editing the beautiful pictures taken in Morocco.

Dubai - we will come back for a long and luxury holiday. wait for us!
Watching the music fountain from 3rd floor balcony was great
as we could see the pattern clearly from top.
First time having a candle burnt from right to left.

Morocco - Day 8

We were leaving Morocco on Day 8, we were a little bit relieved because we were quite tired of the people here.
By the way, we were checking out from the second riad, Dar Sara. It was a much better riad compared to Aljazira. But this is not the one we were dumped two nights ago.
Why we did not insist to stay in the original Riad?
It's because the lady stationed there could only speak French!!
Secondly, the riad was totally owned by us on the last day, it's very spooky.
Lastly, our first riad was located in a very dark alley where two young kids were taking drug nearby the hotel! I actually did not realize what they were doing, I was told by Ah Lun when we reached home safely.
Dar Sara was a cozy place where we were staying on the second floor overlooking the courtyard. In front of our windows, there are two orange trees, so lovely. But it was just a short one night stay before we are heading home.
Our last Moroccan breakfast! I had only eaten one bread or so and that's all.
He just finished everything, amazing!!

Morocco - Day 6-7

We are in Marrakech for two full days. The historic buildings are fascinating, but the people here are so lousy. They like to swear people for no reason therefore it's very annoying!!
There are actually not many attractions to go. The main ones are the busy square plus souk. Ah Lun was so stressed out with the complicated streets, because we did not want to get in touch with the local people who offer us to guide our way.
We visited all the places we wanted to see, but our experience with the local people is something that we could not forget, and unfortunately the experience was mainly negative.

Example 1:
Someone asked for a cigarette from Ah Lun when we passed by an alley. We ignored him because why we need to offer him and what would happen after we offered him?! As we just passed by him, he said "fuck" to us. It made me really angry and why on earth people could scold people with dirty language and looked as if he had done the right thing?? Buy your own cigarette if u want to smoke.

Example 2:
When we were leaving the Place Jemaa El-Fna, I requested to walk along one aisle to see what they are cooking. One waiter came out to sell his place for food. We waved giving a signal for No amd quickly passing by. Once we walked past him, he just yelled at us "suck". How terrible is this!! Labeling someone suck does not help him better, he just had a worse mood and I will not come back!! Be mature, kid!

Example 3:
When we were trying to buy some souvenirs back home, we just want to see the products by ourselves, so we pretended that we did not know English. The shop owner is so annoying and the products are not really great, so we decided to leave. At that time, he just yelled at us "don't come back!!" this has again proved the local people have very dirty mouth.
WOW! Medersa Ben Youssef is the attraction which drew me to come!
So pretty. We arrived there with great sunlight. Good for phototaking.
Another beautiful courtyard in the museum.
Jardin Majorelle - a pretty garden in striking colours.
Busy Place Jemma El-Fna on a Saturday. We were blessed with such great weather.
We met a dog-like cat on the second day. He was sitting on a lady's lap earlier, and then he moved to Ah Lun's lap after the woman had left.
We ended up going back to Place Jemma El-Fna on the second day. We tried the other restaurant and finally we got couscous there. The tangerine is the most popular fruit in Morocco, and we ate them in the morning and in the lunch time.

Morocco - Day 5

It's Dec 7, and it's our 5th wedding anniversary. We spent this special day mainly in the car because it's the day we were leaving Fez for Marrakech, and we were visiting Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca on the way.
I could say this is an unlucky day, because it's raining so heavily, so we could not stay long at the mosque. Also, we had an argument with our riad upon arrival in Marrakech.
I have booked Riad Aljazira through booking.com. When someone came out to the parking area to pick us up, we followed them and said good bye to our driver Mohammed. But when we arrived, I realized that this is not the riad I booked. The bell boy could not speak English, making everything even worse. He helped to connect me with a lady on the phone, she told me that we have to stay there for 3 nights instead at the hotel I have booked. I exploded and could not believe that they could just dump us at a strange riad and forced us to stay there. I am in great anger because no one sent me email beforehand and they even did not send me someone in person to settle this, and the long journey is also another indirect cause for my bad temper. Finally, I insisted to stay at where I have booked, but they could only give me two nights saying that there is a big group coming on the third night. When we were back to Riad Aljazira, the people stationed there could only speak French, so welcoming!!! Luckily, I asked for help from an in-house guest. The couple has been so nice to arrange a pizza order at late night.
Our driver came to meet us up to solve the problem the other day. Instead of having another argument, we just agreed to leave the riad as those people could only speak French. We gave a few conditions to them to source another riad for us. But we have to wait for their feedbacks.

Pulled out my wedding photo from the wallet. Love the torn corners.
The weather in Morocco was rather cold and wet on Dec 7.
Hassan II Mosque was the second largest mosque in the world, and this is the only attraction in Casablanca.
Riad Aljazira - Because of the arty courtyard, i booked this hotel. Intertestingly, i just got the last room from booking.com at Euro 65 per room per night.

Morocco - Day 4

We were exploring Fez this full day with our tour guide Khalid. I read a story about a bad tour guide called Khalid, but I thought there should be so many Khalid(s) in the town, so I agreed to hire this man through my driver because we trusted our driver so far.
We started off in the old medina, it's a very interesting place. We were actually walking in the wet market of the local people. People here are selling olives, pink sweets, dates, preserved animal fat with minced meat, camel meat, etc. all these are so new to us.
Afterwards, he took us to various streets of the medina, and a specific activity will take place in those alleys. For example, dyers' market, brass pot makers, scissors men, carpenters, etc.
We also went to an old school which has a magnificent decoration. We were so impressed once we opened the door. The colourful tiles, and intricate carving are so fascinating!!
After all these, this Khalid started to take us to various shops which he had connection. The weaver's shop was the first one. We thought it is just one time, we were so naive and bought a cloth at $450. After that, we went to a local house's rooftop to see the famous tanneries where the leather was processed. We bought slippers there, but I could say they are expensive. Following that, he took us to a carpet shop. Oh my god, we are not buying any carpet, so we just did not take any picture and just waited him at the shop. But obviously, he was on his phone making us to stay longer. Ok, we thought its time to leave. Then he sent us to an art gallery, another commission shop... We just took a short walk and waited Khalid to come back to pick us up. I found him having lunch later on during this gap. Don't forget he did not allow us to take lunch until we asked.
Finally, it's time for lunch, so we wanted to have something quick. After all these incidents, I must say he took us to "his" connected shops to buy kebabs and tea.
Actually the lunch is just normal price for us, but I know it's over priced in Morocco. The old waiter said our drinks cost $30 (I did not argue becoz I assume all commissions are included there), so I paid the coins to him. He did not leave and give me a gesture to ask for more money!! That's very annoying.
When we were back to the hotel, I had a chat with our neighbor from Germany. She also disapproved these activities. She is going to explore the city herself tomorrow because she could speak Arabic. How good is that!
Waking up and found Ah Lun was already enjoying himself at the courtyard in front of our hotel room.
A more sophisticated breakfast in this hotel, but we only have jams x 2, butter, and cheese.
This is the roadside cafe in front of the city's gate.
Ah Lun was trying Moroccan black coffee here.
One of the key attractions in Fez. it used to be a school in the old days.

Morocco - Day 3

We are leaving Chefchaouen for Fez today. I don't really enjoy the breakfast anymore on the second day... I treasure my egg so much so I decided to put some seasonings onto my lovely hot egg. All of a sudden, the pepper all came out with the lid. And we were laughing our heads off. How come someone will send us pepper and salt bottles that were not closely sealed. Arghhhhhh! It must be a trap by this boring hotel staff. He agreed to replace my egg in the end. So my morning was not a grumpy one.

Another cat wanted to share my brekky~

Our driver picked us up at 8:30am and we were travelling to Fez today. We arrived in 5-6 hours. As we moved along, the weather and scenery changed so much and we did not fall asleep at all. Good to know that my other half enjoyed watching the window like me. And we were spotting many donkeys, goats or cows on our way. We passed by many olive farms too.
Perfect scenery on our way to Fez.
Another picture taken at the petrol station. Break time for driver!
We finally arrived Fez, but we dare not to go out of our hotel today without a guide. When we came, a hotel staff came to Batha Square to pick us up. He led us to the hotel by walking into the winding alleys. Even ah Lun, with great sense of direction, is worried of getting lost here.
Ok. We decided to stay in our nice hotel which is a house built in 17th century!! I always love to pick heritage accommodation. Good to go back to the old times when craftsmanship is superb.
Welcome drinks at Dar Bensouda, the riad we stayed in Fez.
Oh my god! Look at the details of the wall, and we were sent back to 17th century!

Morocco - Day 2

We did not sleep much before we got our first Moroccan breakfast. There were so many cats in the hotel, and we had one cat to accompany us in every meal.
The Moroccan breakfast looks so pretty. They sent us 4 types of bread, and 10 other little plates of sauces to go with the bread, eg strawberry jam, apricot jam, butter, honey, goat cheese, oil(!!!), olives, etc. I was happy just because the decorative layout of my breakfast. But in terms of taste, i don't really like it as I always want savoury breakfast! In the end, they offered us egg and we can choose our style. We were flattered!
After our breakfast, we went out for a walk. We walked to the hill top to take panoramic view of the city, and then we stroll into the small lanes of the city. There were so many shades of blue that we could lose track! How beautiful!!! I love blue, I love Chefchaouen.
Look at my breakfast and the pretty sofa. So glamorous!
View taken from the mountain. Great to match with the blue sky.
Great little details in the town.
Cute small window frames
